How do I schedule my first appointment?

Can I pick which therapist I want to see?
We recognize the value of the therapeutic relationship and understand that choosing a therapist can be a delicate process. If you have a therapist in mind when you call to schedule an initial appointment, please let us know. We will do our best to schedule you with the provider you have requested. On occasion, we may suggest a different provider based on the issue you are dealing with and the providers specific area of expertise. If you have not chosen a therapist, we would be happy to recommend a therapist or help you chose a therapist to best assist you.
What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, check, debit cards, and credit cards.
What if I do not have insurance?
Please see information on "No Surprises Act" posted on our website. We accept cash, check, or credit card for payment. We offer a sliding fee scale for individuals without insurance and who may not be able to pay full fee. We can help you determine if you qualify for these reduced rates. Proof of income, such as check stubs or tax returns, are required to take advantage of these reduced fees.
What if The Aberdeen Group is "out of network" on my personal insurance?
Some of our patients may be covered by an insurance that we are not networked with. Occasionally we can attempt to become paneled with this insurance company so that we are "in network". On other occasions you may choose to work with us with the understanding that you will be responsible for a higher copay then if you were seeing another clinician who was "in network."
Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?
Please bring a copy of your insurance card to your first appointment and arrive at our office at least 10 minutes early to complete paperwork.
What if I have to cancel my appointment?
We understand that there may be times when you may need to cancel your appointment. If you need to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment please call our office at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Cancellations made less then 24 hours may incur a cancellation fee.
Do you file claims with my insurance company?
We will submit a claim to your insurance company for all insurance companies with which we are contracted ("In network"). If you have a copay we will collect your payment at the time of service. You will be notified of and responsible for paying any amount not covered, including deductibles. If we are not contracted with your specific insurance company ("Out of network") full payment will be required at the time of service. A billing statement will be provided for you to file directly with your insurance company.
How much time will the psychologist spend with me (or my child) at the appointment?
Appointments are scheduled for 53 minutes. At your first appointment we will get to know one another and discuss your concerns, pertinent medical history, and treatment options.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
A psychologist is a doctoral level clinician who earned a Ph.D. or Psy. D. in psychology. These clinicians are doctors who are specifically trained to do counseling, therapy, assessment and diagnosis. A psychologist does not prescribe medication.
A psychiatrist is a doctoral level clinician who earned an M.D. in psychiatry. These clinicians are specifically trained to prescribe medication for a mental illnesses. A psychiatrist does not do therapy or counseling.
Do you offer psychiatric services?
We do not currently offer psychiatric services, but your therapist can recommend a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner if medication management is needed.

We are located in the Watersong Office Park, which is on the corner of Coldwater and Union Chapel Road. If you are taking I-69 you will take the Union Chapel road exit. Head West on Union Chapel and turn into Watersong Office Park. You can also take the Dupont Road exit and head west toward Coldwater Rd. Take Coldwater Road north to our office. We are located at 12948 Coldwater Rd. Suite 101.
